Helmsley Building Historic Lobby Train Murals
Commissioned to translate a pair of images by the historic steam train painter Chris Ludlow into bas relief sculpture.
The near-mirror pair of bronze murals depict the historic Park Avenue cityscape, the building known as the “Crown of Park Avenue”, and feature the iconic and historic 20th Century Limited Steam Train.
The near mirror set of massive bronze bas reliefs flank the elevators in the Landmark Beaux-Arts Style building at 230 Park Avenue in Manhattan, next to Grand Central Station.
Joan carved and modeled each of the 20-foot long x 6-foot tall x 1/2” deep images by hand in wood, clay, and wax, then supervised the lost wax bronze casting and installation of the eighty individual panels on-site with Excalibur Bronze Sculpture Foundry.
